- Manage, mentor, and develop a QA team across multiple topic specialty teams.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, assess performance, and drive career growth plans.
- Handle team resourcing, capacity planning, and hiring decisions based on roadmap needs, together with product stakeholders.
- Resolve interpersonal or cross-functional conflicts by fostering alignment, empathy, ownership,p and accountability.
- Own the QA technical roadmap, including automation architecture, tooling, and scalability.
- Make key decisions on frameworks, test environments, and automation direction (e.g., Robot Framework, CI/CD, Qase).
- Evaluate and introduce new tools or approaches to improve testing effectiveness and efficiency.
- Guide the implementation of test data management and environment provisioning strategies.
- Promote shift-left testing in collaboration with development and product teams.
- Refine and establish QA processes, tailored to Manabie's both agile & monthly release cycles.
- Create and enforce standards for test planning, regression strategies, test case reviews, and approval workflows.
- Design and roll out an automation strategy, ensuring robust and resilient tests, and a trained team.
- Define and track QA KPIs (like defect leakage, test coverage, execution time, blocker trends).
- Ensure alignment and compliance with the organization's quality goals, especially in high-stakes production releases.
- Own the QA lifecycle: test planning, case design (manual/BDD), execution, defect tracking, and reporting.
- Align QA activities to business goals, functional requirements, and risk-based priorities.
- Monitor production quality and post-release incidents, facilitate root cause analysis, and action plans.
- Use test data to support go/no-go decisions and improve future sprint planning.
- Review and guide test estimation, story breakdown, risk-based prioritization, and entry/exit criteria definition.
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Owners, and Design to define acceptance criteria and deliverables.
- Represent QA in sprint planning, release readiness, and incident reviews.
- Proactively address cross-team misalignments and conflicting priorities.
- Facilitate retrospectives and postmortems with a growth mindset and solution focus.
- Own defect triage and ensure that a root cause analysis is followed by preventive actions.
- Build visibility through dashboards, test reports, and Confluence QA health pages.
- Share actionable quality insights with leadership and product teams.
- Champion a culture of shared quality ownership across all departments.
- 6+ years in software QA, with at least 2 years in QA leadership or managerial roles
- Proven ability to build and lead QA teams in fast-paced, cross-functional environments
- Experience designing and rolling out testing processes and automation from scratch
- Strong testing background in ERPs or CRMs and web platforms
- Hands-on experience with automation using Robot Framework, Playwright, or similar tools
- Familiar with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab, etc.) and test management (e.g., Qase, Jira)
- Solid understanding of test strategy, risk-based testing, and exploratory testing
- Working knowledge of SQL and database validation
- Understanding of performance or security testing principles is a plus
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong organizational leadership, emotional intelligence, and team-building capabilities
- Comfortable driving change and challenging the status quo with diplomacy and rationale
- Strategic thinking combined with operational execution
- Highly organized, analytical, and quality-focused
- Having worked with Japanese companies or clients
- Experience in EdTech, SaaS, or platform-scale startups
- ISTQB, PMI-ACP, Agile Testing, or Leadership certifications
- Exposure to AI-assisted testing or performance testing tools (e.g., Artillery, K6)
- Experience with mobile testing (Flutter)
